Dearest Mary,
I guess you think it’s about time I’ve written, really Mary I couldn’t help it, cause we have been working three days, preparing for an inspection, and today was it, the inspecting General came today, I got to bed at 12:00 last night and had to get up at 3:00 and awake the Btry. cause they had to be at the parade grounds at 6:00 to display the gun and equipment, so I had to stay back and wait for the general, man was I scared when he came , I didn’t recognize the star on his collar and didn’t render a salute, so he told me how I should report, he was very nice about it tho, anyway we passed our inspection O.K. here, I don’t know how they made out in the field. I have to go on guard duty tonight, and I don’t know when I’m going to get some sleep. You know Mary the last time I wrote to you? anyway! I must be half nuts, cause I didn’t mention anything about the picture you sent me, know kidding Mary I don’t know what the heck is the matter lately, cause I seem forgetful as heck, I’m looking at it now, your Mom looks swell, it looks as tho you’ve grown a little, don’t you think? Liz looks swell too, guess what? I finally got those pictures Mary! it’s about time don’t you think? Although they’re not very very big.
Mary I’ll have to sign off now cause I have to get back to work and while I’m in the guard house tonight, I’ll write.
Love, Bob
