Dig Those Damn Trenches

Aug 14, 1943

Darling,

Here it is Saturday and am I ever corked and that goes for all of us, we got up at 3:00 this morning and went out in the field, gee it was sure nice out, big moon and all, anyway when we got into our position we didn’t have to uncouple our guns all we had to do was dig slit trenches, for our own protection, so Slim and I got going on one, we dug it about five feet deep, and camouflaged it, so that’s all we had to do, until we moved again, we were there about 2 hrs. then we moved into another position, laid the guns, and had to do the same darn thing only this time we made believe we were firing, boy do I ever get mad when we have to dig those damn trenches, cause its really a waste of energy, cause if we ever do go across we know darn well we”ll have to dig em or its our tough luck, and another thing that gets us is when they order us to put salt pills in our water, gee it taste awful, its suppose to to the salt that we swet out, we didn’t get back to camp until 12:00 noon, so they gave us the afternoon off, pretty good (huh) so I went to bed and tried to get some sleep.

Honey I got your letter and also that company magazine it sure is interesting, I mean about those P-51’s (Mustangs to you) ha, ha, and darling about you going out I really don’t want you to but I thought I’d be a heel if I told you I didn’t want you too. Honey I’m going to the hospital in a few minutes to see, Evans our truck driver, while we were in the field he got real sick, so were going to take his mail to him.

Darling I’ll close now, and I’ll write a real long letter tomorrow and darling I love you, until tomorrow then.

Love and Kisses

Bob.

Say hello to all,

(I Love You)
